25 November to 10 December marks 16 Days of Action for the Elimination of Violence against Women when organisations worldwide raise awareness of violence against women. Various organisations across the world will be holding events.
In relation to that, in Zimbabwe the Musasa Project, together with other civil society organisations, is organizing a conference on women and peace designed to discuss the issue of rape and sexual violence against women and girls. The Zimbabwe Human Rights NGO forum is taking part in this event, which will take place on 29-30 November 2012.
Moreover, the Forum will be participating during the 14th EU-NGO Forum on Human Rights from 6-7 December 2012 being organised by the European External Action Service and the European Commission, together with the Human Rights and Democracy Network and the Dag Hammarskjöld Foundation. The annual EU-NGO Forum brings together around 200 delegates from non-governmental organisations, international organisations, EU Member States, and European Institutions.
The occasion will also serve as a platform for an interactive and genuine exchange between Civil Society representatives, EU representatives and international human rights experts. With the current concern over escalation of violence against women during major political events, particularly elections, the Zimbabwe Human rights Forum will be attending the gender workshop.
