In a comprehensive report, the Forum reports the considerably increase of political violence in times of election in Zimbabwe. April 2008 marks an infelicitous peak in that regard.
Violence was recorded mainly in the three Mashonaland provinces and Harare, yet following from press reports it appears that it has spread over all parts of the country. This is different to March, as violence then was confined only to the abovementioned provinces.
Moreover, the Forum notes that men were the victims of 79 per cent of the violations recorded. Violence also more often occurred in rural than in metropolitan areas. The spread of victims and places where violations occurred follows a pattern similar to previous elections.
