Zimbabwe’s Forthcoming Elections – Civil Society Demands and Expectations

With the much anticipated elections in 2013, civil society has great expectations among which will be the role that both the SADC countries and the rest of the international community will play to ensure that the elections are free, fair and credible. The ACP-EU countries are a major constituency of the international community. They can contribute by continuing to support and provide the much needed solidarity to the people of Zimbabwe and keeping Zimbabwe on the global political limelight. They can also encourage parties to the GPA to focus on is full implementation with a special focus on ensuring security of persons, security of the vote and security the people’s will. This document details the currently obtaining situation in Zimbabwe and further sets out civil society’s general demands and specific expectations.
